Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. So for me, it goes without saying that I love this classic Casio G-Shock 5000. Designed by Kikuo Ibe in the early '80s, not much has changed in terms of style and design for the world’s toughest watch. Most watch lovers admit to having at least one of these in their collection (I have a few!) and I find them to be as handsome as just about any Swiss watch I own. The retail price of just over $100 gives you a lot of watch for your money, and they really are indestructible. Now of course, you'd generally find these watches in much more challenging environments than the elegant Grand Hotel Tremezzo in Lake Como. In fact, you're far more likely to see one of these on the wrists of the local Carabinieri than the on aristocrats they're pulling over for speeding. But I found the clean lines and black case to be right at home in the garden for breakfast at the hotel's Villa Sola Cabiatiproperty.
